The lower end has to be inserted down thru the back end of the window slot so I put some blue masking tape on both sides of the slot to help protect the paint. Mid Fifty call this the Upper & back channel but I'll call it the back channel. If your truck sets out in the rain the inside of the door will be wet so I try to avoid scratching the paint on the inside of the door.ĥ. I taped the upper end with 2 layers of blue making tape to help avoid scratching the paint inside the door. Roll it over until the lower bracket is facing you and wiggle it around some and it will just barely fit in there. Getting the division bar in the access hole is tight but insert the upper end in first and angle it up toward the upper hinge. Also, I put used some blue masking tape to protect the paint where the division bar slides thru the slot. For a good fit and alignment with the window mine needed to be mostly forward in the slotted holes at the top and toward the back at the bottom on the passenger side, and toward the rear at the top on the drivers side. Don't tighten the screws until the window is in place and the final adjustment is made. The division bar is the front channel and I might call it that later. Otherwise it will be difficult to get in there if you do it after no.
set window inside the access hole and stand it in bottom of the door. vent window assembly, outside handle and lockģ. sound deader on inside of outer skin if'n you are doing that.Ģ. Go to the bottom of this post to find links to the videos.ġ. I'm also going to work on some videos and will post a link here as I get them done. I'm no expert so if there are corrections I will come back here and make them. So here is the order of things for assembly of the doors parts. I'm no expert and I probably have more questions then answers but I can't find much detailed info on this subject anywhere so I'll start a how-to thread with my meager knowledge and add info from all the great wisdom available on this forum as I get it. I'm new to Avanti and new to the forum. This thread is a how-to install the window, division bar, channel, felts, channel bracket, door regulator and latch in the door of 54.
My guess is lap belts because I found them buried in the trunk! This appears to have been added in at a later time because the font is quite different. Does anyone have a good picture of the original items? The Avanti parts manual suggests a oval-shaped switch plate with a raised ridge.Īlso, the last line on the production order is "X84 AC3286 L&R. Any idea where I could get a pair of new or used switches. It appears that I can buy aftermarket window lifts complete with harness but I would like to install an original switch set. I would like to re-establish the power window. I don't see the original relay and wire harness in the engine bay though.
To my surprise, the Production Order information from the Studebaker Museum indicates that the car was originally fitted with power windows! Upon a closer look I found the wire harness was cut and stuffed into the door posts and the drivers side door panel still has the original mounting hole for the original switch. I recently purchased a 63 Avanti with what I thought was crank windows.
